Homes damaged as high winds hit UK

Demand for professional tradesmen may currently be going through the roof after extreme weather struck the UK earlier this week.

According to insurance provider AA, strong winds were a particularly serious problem for many and have caused some damage to properties. Simon Douglas, director of AA Insurance, noted that last year homeowners were plagued by snow and ice, whereas this year it appears to be wind and rain.

“Common claims are for windows broken by falling tree branches or roof tiles as well as falling gutters and aerials. Comparatively minor damage to a roof can be significantly worsened by high winds,” he stated. It is always worth hiring a professional tradesman to carry out repairs on important parts of the home, such as the roof.

Stuart Curson, head of home insurance at Direct Line, recently warned homeowners not to carry out temporary repairs as it is often not safe to do so.
