Landlords advised to tackle burst pipes and flooding issues

Landlords who fear their properties could be at risk of burst pipes or flooding have been advised to tackle the issues before they become a reality.

The Landlord Syndicate has offered advice to property owners around the UK, as the country gears up to deal with a predicted cold snap.

It noted that problems such as pipes freezing and bursting and homes becoming victims of water damage rise by 100 per cent during the winter.

“Whilst the weather cannot be prevented, precautionary measures can be taken by landlords and tenants to minimise the risk and, should the worst happen, limit the resultant damage,” the organisation’s chief executive officer Eddie Hooker stated.

One way to lower the chance of problems occurring is to hire a professional tradesman to instigate preventative measures.

Stuart Curson, head of Direct Line Home Insurance, said there are a few steps – such as lagging pipes – that can pay off at this time of the year.
