NewBuy scheme to boost British construction

British builders will be handed a boost by the arrival of the NewBuy scheme, which has been announced by the government this week.

The Home Builders Federation (HBF) has reacted to the news by suggesting both current homeowners, those looking to get on the property ladder and construction companies stand to benefit.

By giving people a helping hand with mortgages, the prospects for moving will be improved for about 100,000 individuals across the UK. The Confederation of British Industry has also backed the idea, stating it could prove to be a “game changer” in the housing market.

It could also be a positive step for those who want to design and construct their own home, perhaps with the help of professional builders.

Stewart Baseley, executive chairman of the HBF, said: “The scheme will also provide a vital kick-start for house builders large and small who will be able to build the homes and create the jobs that the country desperately needs.”
