Outlook for builders could improve by autumn

Builders could find work easier to come by in the second half of 2012 if the demand for new houses takes an expected rise.

Brian Berry, director of external affairs at the Federation of Master Builders, explained the situation is currently difficult for those in the construction trade. He said much is now resting on the government’s response to the National Planning Policy Framework, which is due to be published in March. Mr Berry noted that it would still take at least six months to have a positive impact on the building industry, even if it “all goes well”.

Changes to the UK’s planning policy could make it easier for people to hire a builder to construct their own home from scratch, or even to carry out extensive repairs or improvements.

Gem Invest recently identified Kensington in London as the best place to build or invest in property, as demand and prices will always be strong.
