Replace flooring for no creaks, homeowners advised

Flooring could justifiably be considered an underrated aspect of interior design. After all, it covers plenty of the surface area of rooms and is key to a great look. Therefore, perhaps it is time Britons started paying more attention to their flooring options, starting with an upgrade of the materials used.

An email to Telegraph writer Jeff Howell told of problems with creaking in rooms that feature a chipboard base. His response was to recommend replacing the substance with new softwood boards.

Pallavi Dean, an independent design consultant who is currently living and working in the United Arab Emirates, told the National recently that wood is a wonderful option for flooring as it is warm and charismatic.

Mr Howell appears to agree, as he said investing in “proper” flooring is a “worthwhile home improvement” that can be easily achieved as long as issues with partition walls are overcome – perhaps with the help of a professional.
