Saga: Home is where the heart is

The vast majority of homeowners over the age of 50 believe that there is more to a house than just bricks and mortar. According to research by Saga, 89 per cent of the over-50s believe that a house is a home and something that should be cherished and cared for.

It was also found that more than two-thirds (68%) of this age group have lived in their current abode for more than ten years – and almost half (48%) feel that it is the place where they want to grow old. Alex Edmans, business development manager at Saga, says the research shows that the over-50s do not just view their properties as a house, “but as a home” that holds a “lifetime of fond memories”.

As a result, the older generation may treat their homes with more care and only let recommended and rated tradesmen into their homes to embark on home improvement work on their beloved properties
