Strictly Sparkly Home Decor

Last weekend, Strictly Come Dancing waltzed back into our lives and we got a glimpse of this series’ glitz and glamour. Our property ambassador and former Bond girl, Fiona Fullerton, has fully embraced the extravagant styling and paired up with professional dancer Anton du Beke to cha-cha-cha her way to Christmas. As a Strictly fan, you’d of course need to appreciate the dancing but it’s more than the rumba and Bruce Forsyth that sets Strictly apart from the other dance shows around. If I asked you to describe the show in three words, I bet glitter or sequins would count for at least one of them!

In homage to the glitzy Saturday nights to come, I’ve rounded up some sparkly home decor items that have a touch of Strictly about them. Whether you’re a die-hard fan or a dip in and out indulger, one of these five approaches is bound to take your fancy.

Glittery curtains

It would be easy for me to recommend adding a metallic cushion amongst your living room decoration but being brutal, it’s a bit boring on its own. If you’re going to make a statement, why not do it properly like this room’s designer. The glitz of the gold curtain is reined in by its black pairing but it still manages to be eye-catching. Glamour at its best.

Sparkly wall

I wouldn’t suggest painting the entire length of your living room wall in a glittery shade but I love how this nursery wall embraces it in a smaller space. Not only does it look brilliant, the shimmery reflections will bounce around the room and do wonders for stimulating a baby’s senses.

Metallic kitchen tiles

If you’re feeling brave, focus on your kitchen splashback and reach for the metallic tiles. If the idea’s appealing but you’re a bit worried about what it would actually look like on your wall, gather samples of plain colours that have iridescent overlays as well as some metallic kitchen options.

Bejewelled cabinets and countertops

This 100 square foot space has been described by its designer as a “jewel box” and it’s easy to see why! Mick De Giulio used a combination of glass and nickel handles to add a reflective gleam. They’re set off by the polished stainless steel countertop by the sink. It’s a good alternative if the prominence of a metallic backsplash feels daunting.

In a rush to copy the Strictly style? Head straight for a chandelier. They’re more popular than ever right now and with a range of colours and styles, you can make sure that you stop at just the right amount of glitter. Will it be gold, silver or black that takes your fancy?

We can’t all dress up in sequins like Fiona but we can join in the fun and dare I say it, get ready for Christmas at the same time. You won’t be needing any drastic decor switches to take you through to December that’s for sure!
