Teenage female plumber scoops award

Plumber Amy Eddleston has reportedly picked up the award for best apprentice/new starter of the year for the under-25s at the Women in Construction awards.

Ms Eddleston, 19, from Clayton Le Moors in Accrington, has worked on the refurbishment of properties with housing association Hyndburn Homes and got the vote thanks to her skills and enthusiasm, according to 24dash.com.

At the awards ceremony, Dave Prescott, managing director of Bramall Construction, said that more female role models are needed to “encourage women into the construction industry and they are proving time and time again that they can do their jobs just as well as their male counterparts”.

The teenage plumber said she was very happy with the award and wants to prove that women can do just as good a job as men, if not better.

Women currently comprise just 10% of the UK construction workforce, according to the National Association of Women in Construction.
