Tradesmen can protect properties against common threats

A number of the most common threats that can be dealt with by plumbers and other tradesmen have been revealed.

Defaqto has offered tips to landlords, who could be particularly likely to spend money on protecting their properties before handing them over to tenants. It noted the problems many will face include those related to water, gas and electricity, with unauthorised use one issue to protect against.

There could also be difficulties once tenants leave, with intentional and accidental damage to both the home and garden a possibility.

Mike Powell, insight analyst for general insurance at Defaqto, recommended investing in an insurance policy, as this could help to fund improvements and repairs when necessary. He noted there are even some situations that are unique to landlords as they would not occur in standard owned properties.

Direct Line recently said that subsidence is a problem facing many UK homeowners, particularly in London and the south-east.
