Homeowners with ambitious renovation plans could follow the example of one man who has reportedly created a property that changes shape with the push of a button.
Ross Russell’s barn in Suffolk has a steel and wooden shell that slides forwards and backwards to reveal a conservatory-like structure underneath, with glass walls and roof, according to the Daily Mail.
He told the newspaper that in the winter they have the roof pulled over to keep warm.
However, on a summer evening it is a “magical experience” to be able to pull the roof back and “sit in the sunshine”.
“We were only ever going to build one house in our lives, so it had to be special and it had to be beautiful,” he added.
When embarking on once-in-a-lifetime operations such as this, it is important to use someone you trust or tradespeople who come recommended. Mr Russell sought out an old school friend who had trained as an architect.
Self-build specialist BuildStore recently revealed that in January it saw a 37% year-on-year increase in enquires from people looking to build their own home or renovate their property.
