As a result of spending less on the deposit, people will have more money to put towards building a custom home; something they might not have been able to do previously.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<div style=\"height:20px\" aria-hidden=\"true\" class=\"wp-block-spacer\"><\/div>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>What the UK Help to Build scheme means for tradespeople<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image alignwide size-large\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"766\" height=\"511\" src=\"https:\/\/www.ratedpeople.com\/blog\/assets\/2021\/04\/Help-to-build-3.jpg\" alt=\"Help to Build: Roof with scaffolding under construction\" class=\"wp-image-37730\" srcset=\"https:\/\/rp-prod-wordpress-b-content.s3.amazonaws.com\/assets\/2021\/04\/30155139\/Help-to-build-3.jpg 766w, https:\/\/rp-prod-wordpress-b-content.s3.amazonaws.com\/assets\/2021\/04\/30155139\/Help-to-build-3-498x332.jpg 498w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 766px) 100vw, 766px\" \/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">More homes to work in<\/span><\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>The government predicts that between 30,000 and 40,000 new homes will be built through the scheme. <a href=\"https:\/\/nacsba.org.uk\/news\/1-in-3-adults-interested-in-self-building\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\"><strong>Research<\/strong><\/a> by the National Custom and Self Build Association and the Building Societies Association has found that 1 in 3 UK adults are interested in building their own home, which suggests there is a healthy appetite for self-builds. &nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">Increased demand for bespoke work<\/span><\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>Self-build homes allow people to build a home in a way that best fit their current and future lifestyle and needs \u2013 such as by building in features to support older relatives, large families and home working.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>So, there could be an increase in unique jobs that many people might not have previously been able to do. Following that, applications for the Help to Build scheme will open in late summer. At the time of writing (28<sup>th<\/sup> April 2021), the exact dates haven\u2019t been confirmed yet.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<div style=\"height:20px\" aria-hidden=\"true\" class=\"wp-block-spacer\"><\/div>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>How to find out if people are interested in self-build homes in the areas you work in<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image alignwide size-large\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"766\" height=\"511\" src=\"https:\/\/www.ratedpeople.com\/blog\/assets\/2021\/04\/Help-to-build-4.jpg\" alt=\"Couple choosing paint colour for home\" class=\"wp-image-37729\" srcset=\"https:\/\/rp-prod-wordpress-b-content.s3.amazonaws.com\/assets\/2021\/04\/30155130\/Help-to-build-4.jpg 766w, https:\/\/rp-prod-wordpress-b-content.s3.amazonaws.com\/assets\/2021\/04\/30155130\/Help-to-build-4-498x332.jpg 498w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 766px) 100vw, 766px\" \/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>Under the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.gov.uk\/guidance\/self-build-and-custom-housebuilding\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\"><strong>Self-build and Custom Housebuilding legislation<\/strong><\/a> (commonly known as the Right to Build), local authorities must maintain a register of people that are looking for land to buy to build a home on. The government then encourages them to publish key insights on local self-build demand on their websites.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The information that local authorities are encouraged to publish includes:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li>The number of people that have registered.<\/li><li>The number of plots of lands sought out.<\/li><li>Preferred locations for self-builds in an area.<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>Find the websites for the local authorities of the areas you work in on <a href=\"https:\/\/www.gov.uk\/find-local-council\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\"><strong>Gov.uk<\/strong><\/a>. The government is reviewing the Right to Build legislation up until the summer.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<div style=\"height:20px\" aria-hidden=\"true\" class=\"wp-block-spacer\"><\/div>\n\n\n\n<p>The Help to Build scheme is part of the government\u2019s Plan for Jobs, which aims to support existing jobs and create new jobs for people across the UK. The Plan for Jobs also provides cash grants and other support for employers taking on apprentices.
