|Remove brick wall||£400||£900|
Removing a brick wall in your home is definitely a job for the experts. It is messy, dangerous and could well impact upon the safety and structure of your house. It is the kind of job where an experienced builder is required and is worth every penny. The size of the wall will largely dictate how long the job takes, but you are also paying for some pre-demolition assessment of the work by your builder.
They will first have to make sure that the brick wall that they are removing is not load-bearing and that the ceiling or other walls do not require reinforcement before the demolition starts. They may look at your house plans if you have them, or simply give the house a good inspection. They may also ask you about the listing status of the building, as listed buildings may require consent for any demolition work of this kind.
It is best to clear the room if you can, as the brick dust from removing the wall will get everywhere and the demolition requires a good degree of physical effort from your builder. In most cases the builder will not simply go at the wall with a sledgehammer, but will instead take the wall down brick by brick, using a hammer and chisel.
This is safer for them and for your home.It does take more time, but you will be thankful for the undamaged floor or ceiling afterwards. The builder will usually put something soft on the floor to drop the removed bricks down on to and to protect your floor.
