How can I check whether my electrician is registered and which organisation should he be registered with?

Steve Cook

Always insist on seeing evidence of Part P documentation when employing an electrical contractor (Membership number or badge), as this is a legal requirement for any alteration/addition to the electrical system www.electricianmerseyside.net

In Scotland there is no part p so you must make sure your electrician is either niceic or select and also an approved certifier of construction (registered with the government) before any work that requires a building warrant is carried out

Ask electrician what scheme provider he is registered with, and his enrollment number. Then contact the provider and to check information is correct. For domestic work, the electrician should be Part P qualified. There are a number of scheme providers including, NICEIC, Napit, Elesca to name a few. All work to same industry standards.
