Find a reliable, local kitchen fitter

Looking for a skilled kitchen fitter near you? Planning a kitchen renovation or installation can be a daunting task, but having a reliable professional by your side can make all the difference.

Factors to consider when hiring local kitchen fitters

It’s really important that you choose a reliable kitchen installation company to carry out work on your floors and walls. Failing to do this can result in unnecessary stress and expensive repairs.

Before you hire, you should do your research to ensure that your kitchen fitters:

  1. Are an experienced company with a strong history of successful projects
  1. Have all the necessary licenses, insurance and warranties needed to protect you and their workers
  1. Have a good range of positive reviews from previous customers vouching for their reliability
  1. Are offering the kitchen installation services you need, and are available to carry out the work in the timeframe you need it by
  1. Are quoting a price and payment option that you are happy with, having compared the quote with other local kitchen contractors.

Local tradespeople are more likely to respond quickly, as they’ll be right around the corner.

What a kitchen specialist can help with

Kitchen design isn’t just about choosing worktops you like and ordering them in the right size. A kitchen specialist will take a lot of things into account when they plan and design your new, bespoke kitchen. This includes things like:

  1. The distance between work areas
  1. Worktop materials and whether they can withstand spills and heat
  1. How easy the kitchen will be to clean
  1. The positioning of different work areas (e.g. is the sink too far from the hob)
  1. Storage options
  1. The location of plumbing and electrical fixtures

Kitchen specialists take all of these features into account when installing and renovating your kitchen. The main tasks kitchen specialists carry out include:

  • Planning and designing new kitchens
  • Measuring out work areas
  • Ripping out and disposing of old units
  • Marking the location of pipes and cables
  • Measuring and cutting worktops, recesses and joints
  • Fitting new units and appliances
  • Tiling walls and laying flooring

For all your kitchen needs, trust in a local, kitchen fitting specialist to help you turn your old kitchen into the highlight of your home. Post a job today to get started.

How much does it cost to hire a local kitchen fitter?

How much you end up spending on your kitchen home improvement depends on the scope of your project, the quality of your fixtures, and where you live in the UK. Your choice of materials, from laminate to quartz, will significantly impact the overall cost of your project.

On average, the labour cost of installing a new kitchen is between £5,000 and £12,000, not including the cost of kitchen fixtures like worktops, splashbacks, cabinets and your kitchen sink.

The qualifications your kitchen specialist needs

There are no specific qualifications to become a kitchen design or installation specialist, and typically their experience will cover a range of different skills.

Often, kitchen installers use a team of specialists, such as a plumbing, tiling or carpentry specialist, who are either fully employed by them or subcontractors.

Anyone working with gas needs to be registered with Gas Safe, and anyone installing electrics (in England and Wales) needs to be Part P certified to be able to self-certify their work. These tradespeople will have valid documentation that you can ask to check.

Planning permission for kitchen renovation jobs

You won’t need planning permission to install a new kitchen unless it’s part of a house extension. If you live in a listed building, you should check with your Local Planning Authority before carrying out any work as different rules may apply.

For more information, read our planning permission guide, or visit the Planning Portal website.

Questions to ask a kitchen fitter

Whether you just want new laminate countertops or are looking for a completely new, bespoke kitchen installation, we recommend you ask your tradespeople a few questions:

  1. How many years of experience do you have?
  1. What’s the cost of the job?
  1. How long will it take?
  1. Are you licensed and insured?
  1. How will you protect my property?
  1. What will you do with the old kitchen materials?
