Carpenter / Joiner

Having just moved to Devon, into a period cottage that needs a fair bit of work, this was the first time we've used Ian, and it certainly won't be the last - in fact we are already arranging the next piece of work for Ian to make and install a new T&G front door for us after he did such a brilliant job restoring our timber casement windows. Great attitude, reliable, great communication and really takes a pride in his excellent work. Highly recommended!

Hello Ruth, how old is the kitchen, because you should beable to get a replacement product. Failing that I would reccommend replacing the door anyway as you will almost certainly not make a perfect repair. Cheers, Ian

How do I lay a solid wood floor on concrete?
  • Ian Summerscales's Answer

Hello Tony, there are a couple of methods of fixing solid wood floor to concrete but I must stress that on no account should the floor be 'fixed' it must be allowed to move. So, first method is to lay a plastic membrane over the area then fix timber battens directly to concrete sub floor at 300mm spacings making sure not to drill into pipes/cables. You can fit Jablite polystyrene inbetween battens, then you can fix your solid wood floor to the battens through the tongue (secret nailing) The second method is to use self adhesive underlay, which the wood floor is stuck down to but allows the floor to move. Hope this is of use to you, cheers Ian
