I would use zinnser primer, then zinnser all coat - the allcoat is a water based paint which does NOT go yellow!

Hi, We're getting much conflicting advice on how to re-render our external walls. The house was build around 1890, the walls are damp since the current rendering is badly damaged. We're taking this off to have it re-rendered. All restoration people tell us never to use just sand & cement render, but use with lime. Plasterers say just use sand & cement as for everything else. Using lime makes sense to me to allow the walls to dry out. Should lime render be used or not? Cheers, Tim

Lime render, as was the type of product used in that day. If you want a perfect finish paint it silicate paint - the paint can protect houses for over 100years (2 coats) castles, the white house etc.
