I was very impressed with the quality of work that was carried out by For Ever Homes. They turned up on time and cleaned up at the end of each day. The repointing looks very good and has improved the overall look of the house. I would definitely recommend them to anyone wanting similar work completed.

Plasterer / Renderer

For Ever Homes provided an excellent service from start to finish. I cannot speak highly enough of Pete and Jim the guys who performed the work. They were friendly, helpful and efficient, even going the extra mile to help with a couple of issues we had whilst they had the scaffolding up. The work was completed within schedule and was of high quality.

*No work has been done*. The gentleman who came by for a site survey made a positive impression, and a quote arrived quickly thereafter. Unfortunately, my return query - asking for portfolio examples/references, and details of their warranty - did not get a response, 14 days and 1 chase later. I would not necessarily assume anything sinister (although I am not exactly reassured by a key supplier with a cheap web site and a @btconnect email), but this cannot be called a positive experience.

Two nice chaps, Pete and Jim. Seemed to care for their work and appeared when they said they would. Place left tidy when finished.

Hi, How often should I have my building caulked or waterproofed? How can I telll it needs to be done?

  • Alan Molloy's Answer
    Tue 13 Nov 2018 14:22pm

It's hard to answer this question as you haven't specified what parts areas or surfaces. All masonry and external surfaces are designed to keep out the elements however alongside working with them, they are designed to breath so will take in certain amounts of water aswell. The best way to decide whether you need works or waterproofing is when the surfaces deteriorate visibly, ie, Render/pebbledash cracks or becomes hollow, brick/stone blows or spauls revealing the belly, mortar becomes sandy or soft. If any of these surfaces are painted, hairline cracks, blistering or discolouration is a sure fire way of getting to action to have everything repainted. By all means send us a message and I can give you an answer directly to your specific enquiry.

Can sand and cement be used on my period home to do pointing

  • Alan Molloy's Answer
    Wed 31 Oct 2018 14:42pm

Assuming you referencing 'period' as around Victorian. Using a cement based mortar for repointing lime jointed brickwork is not a great idea. An old wall that will naturally have a certain amount of moisture penetrating it then the joints are the only means of that moisture getting out. If cement is used it will cause future damp problems inside and out. The bricks will then stay moist, and as this freezes and thaws, the surface of the bricks will blow and deteriorate.
