Very responsive, and prompt in all communication. Excellent service, unbiased and very detailed and clear report with regards to potential damp in the property, and also an understanding of the costs and work involved to convert a vault/ cellar. Would highly recommend.

I have nothing but praise for Peter Barber and the two workmen - John and Savva - who came to waterproof my cellar. They were on time, efficient, did an excellent job, cleaned up afterwards and what's more very nice people to deal with. I wouldn't hesitate to recommend them.

Peter is amazing: I asked him to come by to check a suspected case of dry rot and quote for it. He looked at it, did some measurements and concluded that nothing had to be done. He then left and wrote a report, so I can show it when I sell my house. And he didn't even charge me for it. I thought this type of service didn't exist anymore.

Peter managed the job very well, including organising working with the other trades and building control. Changes and additional tasks were managed very efficiently and priced on a very reasonable basis. The team onsite did a very good job and worked very efficiently. We would recommend them.

London waterproofing solutions were the first to respond and were over in days to give a quote (which came in on budget) and full detail of the work involved. They began a week later - the team worked hard in cold, unheated conditions, always smiling. Peter the boss came most days to inspect and I was delighted with the result. He even came round for a courtesy call a month later to check everything was fine which it was. A thoroughly professional business, one of the good guys. I'd recommend to anyone.

Peter was true to his word. He knows his business; was easy to contact and easy to understand. He stuck to his tight schedule which was immensely important to us. His team were polite and any little hitches were dealt with quickly and without any grievance on either side. It is not really possible to rate the actual work done as only time will tell whether the actual damp issue has been sorted however Peter did provide, upon completion, the guarantee certificate; would use again and suggest him to others.

It is difficult to rate Garratts Damp & timber as no work was undertaken, however, the surveyor was punctual and his report good. I would not hesitate to use this company again should I have damp and timber porblems.

We have mould on our loft felt it is white in one area
  • Peter Barber's Answer
    Sun 11 Jan 2015 13:43pm
The mould is most likely to be caused my condensation which is rising as humidity from the main living area. As humidity is relative, warm air will hold water, and cold air will not. Therefore as the humid air reaches the loft space then the water within the air will be released and condense on the roof timbers. The best way forward is to ensure that the humidity within the main living areas remain at an acceptable level by the correct use of ventilation. Lofts are usually quite well ventilated therefore additional ventilation to this area will probably not make a lot of difference. However is is wise to ensure that the existing insulation is not blocking the eves and there is air passing through. Peter Barber CSSW. CRDS
