Carpenter / Joiner

Peter did a great job for us at short notice which really helped out. We then added a few more jobs and he finished them all on time and within budget. Much appreciated will definitely use again...

Peter was Prompt with his quote, Fair with the price and his workmanship was genuinely exceptional! A polite and friendly guy I really can’t recommend him enough. I have already got him doing other, more taxing works around my home which are putting his seemingly endless set of skills to work. He has also quoted to fit my parents kitchen - which they have accepted and hope to get him to fit it for Christmas.

Handyman

We agreed a price and he said he would contact me to let me know which day he would do the work but although I left various types of messages for him, to chase that up, I never heard from him again. NB Even though no work was done, I had to rate the quality of workmanship to post this review.

Peter was easy to contact as his partner also follows up the enquiries. This was important as I needed to get a date in the diary and the work completed. He came and assessed the job and went to speak with supplier to gain a greater understanding of the project. There were a few teething problems but he dealt with the issues efficiently and calmly. I am delighted with my fitted bedroom furniture and it looks exactly like the showroom model. I would highly recommend Peter.

Painter and decorator

I cannot recommend Peter & Paul highly enough. They re-fitted some oak doors which had been badly done by another company, and managed to put everything right. They then completely re-decorated our downstairs landing and hallway, including all woodwork. All work was carried out to a very, very high standard, far higher than any other decorating company we have ever used. They were both absolute gentlemen and a pleasure to have working in our home. Will most definitely use again. Top marks.

Handyman

Peter was very quick to suggest a number of solutions to the job, and was very reluctant to just dig up the patio and rack up the hours. The solution used was ingenious with a hidden downpipe and rain water now used to water my garden! Very impressed. Oh and a very clean worker, got home to no mess at all. A first for this type of job. A+ will definitely use Peter again for future jobs.

We are delighted with Peter's work building our staircase banister. He listened to what we wanted and delivered an impressive, high quality result in good time and within budget. Peter is personable and happy to share his thoughts and advice on other projects you might have. We wouldn't hesitate to recommend him to other homeowners.

I echo James Youngs answer. We are only buying the opportunity to quote! You need to be able to sell yourself, instil in the prospective customer confidence that you can do a good job, and of course quote a fair price to do the job. You will sometimes be quoting along side two other tradesmen, or sometimes against just one. Though the best scenario is to be first to buy, get round to see the job promptly, and convince your customer you are the guy for the job there n then. If they are confident that you are a capable, polite professional, they will often not seek another quote. If you look after these (in fact any) customers, they will continue to use you for all their future work and your small initial outlay for the job will be replayed many times over. But ultimately, we accept that we won’t win them all.....and that there is No refund unless after all your attempts to be able to quote, have been met with a dead end. Personally, my quote/success rate is currently around the 6-7 out of ten, and if you are a personable chap and a good tradesman, I see no reason your stats won’t be at least as good.
