Loft Conversion
I cannot praise Jim and his team highly enough. He gave me a quote within days and started within two weeks - much earlier than i was expecting. Jim went to a lot of trouble before being appointed, including finding me a first rate structural engineer. This is a family firm and he worked most days with his brother and a nephew, and they were all professional, friendly and conscientious. The job was well built, they cleaned up fine & came in on budget and a month earlier than my deadline. Delighted!
House Extension
Jim and his guys did a fantastic job, building around an inhabited family home. What appeared to be a fairly complicated job went on with no issues and to a good standard, any issues that appeared during and after the build were dealt with without fuss and in a professional manner. Any amendments we asked for were never a problem, priced fairly and with no quibbles. We would happily recommend Jim and team to friends, family and anyone else. Happy to supply further details and references if required.
Loft Conversion
They laid a floor in the loft and fitted a loft ladder. Their quote said "ALL WORK CARRIED OUT TO A HIGH STANDARD AND SITE LEFT CLEAN AND TIDY”. Firstly, they tidied up by doing some painting, and then left saying it needed another coat, but they did leave behind the tin of paint so that I could do it myself! That was just a minor amusement, the big problem was the mess left behind in the loft. I mentioned the mess to Mr Cole, and give him his due, he worked really hard to clear it up and dispose of it. He charged an extra £50 for doing so, but he did leave the site clean and tidy, and I was satisfied with it. I think this shows that Mr Cole is a genuine workman who will listen to your comments and try his best to sort them out for you. It’s a bit hard to comment on the quality of the work. It looks fine now, but if anything goes wrong I don’t think Rated People will allow me to add anything to this, so I won’t be able to say if Mr Cole’s work stands the test of time, nor if he helps out with any future problems. However, I think his work is solid, and I believe that Mr Cole cares about the quality of this work and would come back if there were any issues.

I felt the comment regarding the site clearing unjust. I did tidy up but left all his loft insulation to one side as I didn't feel at liberty to dispose of this expensive material. When Mr. Hornsby pointed out he also wished this dispose of I did so but I made a charge because I had to make an extra journey to the top. Site left clean and tidy refers to your own work environment, not the contents of somebody's house! We did coat the job with paint and only left the paint can for future touching up.

Interestingly, the work was done in Aug 2010, but the tradesman didn't respond to my comments until May 2012. Perhaps, after all this time my comments have caused him problems, in which case, I apologise. I mentioned a genuine problem and how Mr Cole tackled it, and I though my conclusions about his workmanship and integrity were positive. Perhaps the lesson is for both parties to have a clear and shared understanding of requirements before the work commences.
