Would have no hesitation in recommending on - as work ethic and the results were beyond our expectations. Tommy consulted with the Structural Engineer and not only made the job both quicker and easier but the results have guaranteed a stronger support for our house. A real expert in his field. Excellent job by Tommy and his team.

Tommy spent a while inspecting the flat to identify all of the problems and quote accurately. His advice was spot on and he set about fixing everything (rotting timbers under the hall floor and around a bedroom fireplace, woodworm treatment, rising damp). The bathroom floor turned out to be in a terrible state (it disintegrated when lifted) and Tommy ripped it all out for a very reasonable additional cost. I'd recommend Tommy very highly - An experienced and knowledgeable tradesman you can trust!

I would not hesitate to use Tommy's firm again. He always let me know what was happening and would discuss what I wanted. The work carried out was very good and everything was cleared away. it was a pleasure to do business with him.

If you have a damp problem, don't bother with the other 'specialists', get Scotia Property Services in to advise you first. They know what they are talking about! Punctual, polite and always happy to do that bit extra to help. Quoted me a very fair price and even did extra when I discovered more rotten joists! Top quality workmanship and always tidied up after themselves and treated me and my home with respect. If only all trades could be this good or honest. Many thanks from Russell in Edinburgh.

's question

I have a flat where the bedroom is suffering from damp on two external walls. The external walls are rendered and the rendering has large cracks in it. I only have two weeks to remedy this damp and builder is recommending dry lining the room as opposed to removing the existing plaster as it would be too wet to apply further plaster on the damp brickwork in the time available. External works cannot be undertaken until the summer. I feel though the problem is still in the room and drying lining is just covering the problem up but for a temporary measure it may just have to do.

Hi Sally without visiting your property it sounds as though you need a damp proof membrane fitted. I would ask a rated people damp specialist to carry out a free survey of your problem. regards tommy

I have a chimney breast with Gas Fire correctly fitted with correct flue etc. fully working and recently tested by gas safe plumber. But above fireplace there is a permanent (contained) damp patch on wall, and in bedroom above a much bigger damp area. Externally we have had chimney repointed, but damp patches remain.

Hi Pete it could be a number of reasons from staining marks where the damp has been to a faulty lead flashing. I recommend you get a rated people damp expert out to give you a free survey. regards tommy
