Fit worktop in an L shaped kitchen (single joint) with cut outs for sink and gas hob.
Very good tradesman. Marik fitted my kitchen worktop perfectly and at a very reasonable price. Would definitely use again.

Replacement panelling below two sash and case windows (approx 1m40 (W) by 0.7m (H)). Job will involve removing existing panelling (and flimsy shallow shelves) and replacing with simple panelling (with beading) and either removal of sills or building up of one sill, dependent upon advice.
We are delighted with the job Brian has done for us. Brian was a complete professional; responded quickly, came when he said he would, was very tidy and did an exceptional job. We will use Brian again and would recommend him to others.

Wooden decking and stair from Edinburgh flat into the garden. Our existing stair and platform has been broken up a bit and moved to make room for scaffolding for communal works. It is quite old and we would like to replace it. The platform is about 5ft from the ground and about 5ft across. There is an area of the concrete base (about 1m square) which needs to be broken up and refilled with rubble and topped with new concrete. It also needs patching.
Considerate, professional, great value and skilled! Morningside Joinery took their time to talk through the job and consider what we wanted as the customers. I definately recommend them and we would use them again without hesitation. Thanks

My front door inside a stair needs a mortise lock put in
The joiner was very quick to contact me, he quoted me an amount and came round this morning to replace the lock. The only negative thing was that I was not able to explain the job fully. Anyhow, he has done an excellent job and was very polite too. A very happy customer. Thanks Charlie!

Treads on our stairs (two flights, total 26 steps) are made of MDF. They creak and flex when used. We've been told wrong screws have been used and that they've been used badly, making them unsafe. We need to make sure they're safe but our budget is limited. The one quote we've had from a local craftsman is way outside what we can afford.
George was v helpful, fixing creaky stairs to budget, within timescale. As he found a leak under the stairs, I asked what we needed to do to fix it. He offered to sort it. Same with dodgy downlights in the bathroom. Went out of his way to get new ones, which he just charged at cost. Pricing was competitive but a bit confusing as costing for the stairs alone was based on 2.5 days’ work and it all took about 1.5 days, spread over three mornings, including extra jobs.

Assemble a bunk bed in small upstairs bedroom.
Mr Ramos was, polite, proffesional and affordable. Did an excellent job! I would definately use him again.

Solid flooring about 3 quarters of an inch thick needs repairing to Edwardian tongued and grooved in keeping with Edwardian House.
Mr King was pleasant on the telephone: said he could do the job; said when he would come (if suitable - it was); and did the job for the price he had quoted, which included his travel costs. I have no hesitation in recommending him as above.

Also specialises in windows & conservatories, gardening & garden design, loft conversions and handyman.

Leith Walk, EH7

Under £500
Small ground floor flat with old wooden floors and door frames. The floor is well used and mostly in pretty good condition but I'd like it sanded and finished to clean it up. The door frames are partially stripped and I'd like them sanded.
Marcin was very reliable and did a good job on the floors, leaving minimal mess. It did seem expensive, but I didn't have any other quotes to compare to so perhaps just the going rate for this type of work. He (and his workmate) certainly came well prepared and were very friendly and professional, despite having to work in small spaces, moving furniture back and forth. The door frame work wasn't quite finished: he wasn't able to find replacement door frame beading, and there's a wee bit of paint left on the door frames (small slivers in narrow / awkward spaces), but they look a million times better than they did before and getting the work done quickly and on time like this was worth it - would definitely recommend. Carpenters and joiners

Carpentry is one of the oldest trades in existence today and involves some of the most fundamental work required in construction; both in first-fix construction of joists and timber-framed homes or in second-fix joinery which involves making wooden doors, skirting boards, flooring and staircases. Next time you're in a more traditional home, look around at all the wooden features and you'll soon spot the amount of work a carpenter is involved in when a house is built - and that's only the parts you can see!

Carpenters and joiners

If you need any woodwork doing around your home, you’re probably looking for a carpenter. One of the world’s oldest trades, modern carpentry uses a mixture of traditional woodworking tools and modern powered implements. It is also one of the largest building trades in the UK.

What does a carpenter really do?

Carpenters are responsible for building and fitting wooden fixtures in residential and commercial buildings. This includes doors, stairs, window frames and roofing, as well as items of furniture such as wardrobes and cabinets. Many carpenters are self-employed and work on a job-by-job basis, while others work for carpentry contractors. The specific jobs that a carpenter carries out will depend largely on what type of carpenter they are, although many will cover a wide range of woodworking activities rather than specialising in one particular area.

What type of carpenter do I need?

A rough carpenter specialises in the ‘rough’ work of building a structure, such as framing, forming and roofing. Joisters also specialise in the basic structural elements of buildings, and lay floor ‘joists’- boards which give the floor extra support.

Trim Carpenter
A trim carpenter specialises in the more detailed jobs for carpenters, and as the name suggests, work mainly on trims and also mouldings. If you have work you need doing to skirting boards, door trims, mantelpieces or any other decorative or ornamental features, you need a trim carpenter.

Trim Joiner
A carpenter joiner is usually a master carpenter who has spent many years building their experience in the trade. Carpenter joiners take care of any woodworking that requires high precision joins, and often make furniture and other wooden fixtures. A cabinet maker meanwhile performs similar work to a carpenter joiner, but often focuses solely on making furniture such as wardrobes, tables and cabinets.
