|Build and install ensuite bathroom||£3,000||£5,000|
Ensuite bathrooms have become increasingly popular in our houses, creating a haven for parents next to the master bedroom or giving added privacy to an elderly relative, children or visitors to your home. If you think you may want one installing then it is best to get a builder in to see if you have enough space to carve out of your bedroom, walk-in wardrobe or spare room, as well as if the ensuite will comply with current building regulations.
Your builder will need to first measure up, as well as working out where services such as plumbing and electrics will come into the bathroom, and where waste pipes will leave. Waste services are the most difficult part of the job, as these services are unlikely to already be hooked up near to your bedroom.
The bathroom suite, fittings and extras such as shower rooms or wet room facilities will make up a good part of your budget for this job, but you will also be paying out for the demolition and construction of walls and doorways. This will depend upon the layout of your home and the size of your proposed bathroom. In most cases you will either be creating a small room within your bedroom from stud walls, or knocking through a stud wall into a smaller room or cupboard. In both cases you will need to create a doorway and have a door hung.
Your bathroom will also need fitting with ventilation so that dampness does not accumulate (and so you can see while you are shaving or doing your make up). Once the ensuite is installed then you will need to have the room decorated. Your bathroom fitter or internal renovation expert will also be able to install tiling, flooring and details such as mirrors, storage and spotlights.
