Build a stud wall

Build stud wall £400 £800

Building a stud wall is a simple way to divide up the space in your home and also to divide off rooms for new functions, such as en-suite bathrooms or utility rooms. A stud wall is a timber frame that has plasterboard nailed or screwed over the top to create a wall. Putting one up is simple for an experienced builder, but it is very much a skill that has to be learned.

Stud walls are hollow, so they make a great place to hide wires and services. Your builder will first have to come in and measure up and they will then go off to buy or collect materials for the job. This may be on the same day or at a later date. You may need to call in an electrician to put wires through the wall if your builder does not have one on their staff. You will also need to decorate the wall to fit in with your décor or call in a painter and decorator to re-do the whole room or match the new wall to your current scheme.

An experienced builder will know how best to build a stud wall to make it both strong and soundproof. Switches and sockets are usually offset so that outlets on both sides of the wall do not line up and so sound does not travel through the walls that way.
