|Skim walls and ceiling||£200||£500|
If the plaster on your walls and ceilings is generally sound but you have extensive cracks or you are unhappy with the finish, then you may choose to have it skimmed rather than removed and renewed. This is generally a cheaper option, as your builder will not have to remove the old plaster before starting the job.
An experienced builder or plasterer should be able to advise you on the best course of action, whether you want to cover up an artex ceiling or simply freshen up your plaster and the finish in your home. A plasterer will first cover up and fill any cracks or areas that need repairing before skimming the wall or ceiling with plaster. You should end up with a smooth finish that can then be painted or papered. The job is usually straightforward, although covering textured surfaces and finishes on your walls and ceiling will take longer and therefore be more costly.
