|Wash basin blockages||£50||£100|
Wash basin blockages tend to be the result of compacted hair, cosmetic products or items that have been dropped down the plughole at some point. If you have tried a plunger or a commercial unblocking product then you should call out your plumber, who will investigate the blockage by using tools or a flexible hose to snake out the problem, or by undoing and removing pipework.
In most cases the cause will be found local to the wash basin, in the trap between the plughole and the pipes to the drain. This will make for a very quick repair. But if problems are down to cracked, corroded or broken pipes further down the line then removal of any blockages can be both time-consuming and costly. This is because your plumber will have to investigate the pipes that lead from your wash basin to your drain. Pipes may have to be cut and replaced at any point along this pipework, some of which will be beneath your floorboards.
