We want to knock kitchen and utility room into 1. Will need some basic plumbing, electrical, plastering etc, do I need all 3 or cangeneralbuilders do the lot?

James WILKINS

Lin, A general builder can do all 3 by employing as sub contractors or by employing directly trades who are skilled enough who can satisfy building control of your local council. You mention that a kitchen etc is involved. Kitchen, bathrooms, outside are subject to what is called Part P under controls and can be done by self certificating electricians and plumbers who notify directly the building control. Make sure that you discuss with a builder or trades person their credentials and all who are embers of a trades body will be registered and have ID and will be pleased to tell you all about it. Any one who prevaricates show them the door. James Electrician-NAPIT SW London
