Yes it could cause future problems. Why not put a decent sized waterbut there with an overflow perhaps running to a nearby flowerbed. Failing that put a gully beneath the down-pipe and dig a shallow channel around 3 or 4 metres long and lay some underground perforated pipe on a bed of shingle and cover over with earth/turf/decking etc.
