Our house is about 1 to 2 metres above road level - access is via a few steps and the front garden is raised too. I would like to dig this out and put a double driveway in the front garden, but I estimate that the retaining wall that would be needed would come quite near the front of the house. My fear is that, if not done correctly, the foundations of the house could be at risk. So my question is; is this a simple job or one where advice of a structural engineer etc is needed?
