Hi Garry You may not need planning permission But to keep everything correct you may need to Contact your local building control as any masonry Removal mostly needs there approval. Hope this helps Slb brickwork

No planning permission required. Remember to render the old chimney area with a waterproof render or ammonium sulphate contamination to the interior surface will cause hygroscopic dampness later. Google it for full information , this is very important .
