Removed downstairs chimney breast - reinforcement check

Posted by Ming Mok, on
We are buying a 2 storey house - semi-detached, just over 50 years old. The ground floor section of the chimney breast has been removed. Visually, there are no problems - but we would like a professional opinion as to whether the reinforcement that's been put in place is adequate AND up to building control standards. Can a tradesman normally come round and do this check - and if so, what sort of 'damage' would they need to do to investigate ? Also, would this check be expensive ? Many thanks
