Cracks coming from the corner of door-frames

Posted by Jane Morris, on
I live in the upstairs flat of a house converted into two flats. Above each of my door frames is a crack running from one corner and goes away at an angle. For the two doors that are in line with each other, the crack is from the corner towards the centre of the flat. The cracks are mostly only about 1mm wide, but are at least 20cm or so long. There are no similar cracks in the downstairs flat, so presumably it's not subsidence. Do I need to get them structurally assessed?

Renovations often cause a small amount of settlement in the immediate area of doors and windows. The door would not shut if there was a serious problem and the crack would be long and wide.
