Roofer or builder?

Posted by Ann McCormack, on
I have water damage to my hall ceiling and the hall is part of an outer porch. The flashing was sealed down over 2 years ago but the water damage is returning. This is a 12 year old house, it was discovered some mortar was missing from the brickwork, behind the flashing before it was sealed, could this be the problem, do I get a roofer or builder?

Firstly you will need to assess that it is not an old stain surfacing again. Then if it is fresh water penetration you will need to contact a roofer

The stain forming on your ceiling may not be damp or water at all , the original stain can travel through new paint in times of high humidity or low temperature . You need to establish if this is not the case before attempting to fix a problem that doesn't exist . Spray the stain with polycell stain stop before painting every time you are covering a stain . If it is damp you need a handyman or roofer to seal the defect outside .
