Re-pointing cracks on a wall

Posted by Gerald Dudley, on
On a rental property built circa 1900 there are two vertical cracks about 3m long and 5mm wide on the rear extension. The insurers surveyors had tell-tales fitted which has confirmed it isn't subsidence and is not moving, but it looks bad so I would like to get them re-pointed. How far beyond the width of the cracks should I have re-pointing done? I'm thinking about 500mm each side?. How long should this take to re-point?

You are correct in saying 500mm either side of the crack, and also at a distance of 450mm you need to put in 1m length helical bar [ starting at just below crack and just above it ] with resin and repoint as this will not move again. Then just repoint all the area.
