How can I find out if a wall is a supporting one l

Posted by Marcia Green, on
I am about to purchase a period flat it does though have a wall located in the middle of the living room that if removed would improve the space ten fold. When knocked it is definitely not a stud wall and appears to be made from bricks. What I currently see is a square room (the living room) with a box shape room now the bathroom place to the right and taking up a quarter of the space. It is not an old chimney but I can say that the flat is located in the basement and I think is Georgian.

Because tyou have a flat this not so straight forward.Depending on what kind of construction the property is will determine whether it is supporting. Your best bet is to seek professional help by asking the advice of an engineer or surveyor who you will need anyway as you will have to submit calculations to building control if you do go ahead.

Hello Marcia, You can remove almost any wall given the right structural instructions. Seek out an architect and he will advice you. Regards Michael

If you are asking if you can remove a wall that is loadbearing , then yes is the answer . Your question is not that clear to answer.
