contact your local councils building control they will have a record of all applications relevant to your property.it sounds like the extension may have not required planning but all major work needs some form of building regs,it probably would have been done under a building notice as a project this small would not require a full set of building regs.if for any reason this was not done you can apply for retrospective approval. hope this helps
