Damp coming through upstairs solid outside walls

Posted by Christopher Clough, on
Whilst I think the gutters need cleaning out, driving rain seems to be causing damp patches on upstairs walls. How best to tackle this? Would another coat of paint on the rendering do the trick - or do I need specialist dampproofing treatment and/or specialist thick external rendering or even external insulation

Hello Lorna, Welcome to this site. Try damp proofing first. The service in getting advice/survey is free and you should get 3 tradesmen to quote so you should use it. Tradesmen pay for the opportunity to quote on your job. It is important to give tradesmen contacting you the opportunity to do so, the advice you receive is free. You are not obliged to use any of them. Regards Michael

You could try a sealer on the outside of the render , but you might have to re render the area if it has totally broken down . By sealing with a water sealer it is on a temporary fix always . The most effective is a re render and when you mix this you put a waterproofer in the render mix. Hope that helps
