Registered tradesman or company isn't rated?

Posted by Gary Ewens, on
How do we trust a tradesman or company if they have no rating? We have work to be done but they are not rated yet came through rated people!

See if the tradesman has got references from other jobs he has completed. Ask if it's possible to go and see some of his, previous work and speak to the clients that he did the work for. Everybody on rated people started at the beginning with no ratings. I found that the first job was the hardest one to get. Even companies with 100+ ratings all had to do the first one. Make sure you are 100% happy with the person you hire to do the job.

Hi Gary, Tradesmen without ratings have most likely just joined Rated People. Though they don’t have ratings yet, this doesn't mean they're not quality tradesmen. In fact, these tradesmen are keen to do a quality job for you to ensure that they get a brilliant first rating which will help them to build their reputation and win future work. A good tradesman should have a portfolio of previous work. Tradesmen can upload photos of past projects, qualifications and a description of their services on their Rated People profile, so we would encourage you to check their profile for this information and request more information if necessary. I hope this helps. Of course, if after this you do not feel confident in who you're hiring, we would encourage you to choose a different tradesman. Best Wishes, Natalie The Ask an Expert Team

Hi Gary, Many thanks for your question. All tradesmen who join Rated People start out without any ratings, but that doesn't mean they aren't good tradesmen! Depending on the job, you could ask to talk to their previous customers, look at their portfolio (if they have one), check their qualifications and compare their expertise with other tradesmen who've quoted. Always hire a tradesman you feel comfortable with and trust. I hope this helps and best of luck with your project. Kind regards, Emmeline Ask an Expert moderator

Hi Gary,as already mentioned as a rated people member we all have to start somewhere to get our first rating, however if this guy is genuine then there should not be a problem with him showing you some past projects or refs.If you are still not 100% happy with that then maybe do some more searching for your ideal tradesman.hope this helps ,john, select floors
