Chimney repointing and supporting - how big a job?

Posted by carol frances, on
I am buying a house where the survey shows the chimney needs localised repointing and RSJ supported at both ends off load bearing walls. Is this a big job and how expensive is it?

Repointing the chimney is only expensive if you need scaffolding a figure of around £300 if you don't need scaffolding and then upto £1000 if you do, The Rsj is a bit tricky you need a structural engineer to tell you what size pillars and depth of concrete etc. But if its a standard 2 storey house then most builders will be able to tell you what you require without the expense of getting calculations done. An Estimated guess on this would between £1000 to £2500 hope this helps Regards, Daniel
