Load Bearing Wall

Posted by Toby / Leanne T, on
Last owners knocked out a downstairs loo in the kitchen. There are walls above this housing the airing cupboard and water tank. Fair sized cracks have appeared in the ceiling along the lines of the removed wall. Our homebuyer report never mentioned any problems when we bought six months ago. Worried in case this would be load bearing and doubt that there would be a joist there. What should we do?

Hi Leanne Check that the walls above are stud walls or brick gently tap the wall, if it sounds hollow it maybee stud. If it sounds solid it's probably brick. You really ought to post it as a job and get someone to look at it just to be sure. JC
