Loft ventilation

Posted by Lorraine Simpson, on
When we bought our mid terrace property 17 years ago part of the retention was to have vents fitted into the roof. The chap who did this work at the time was a jack of all trades and put in 2 ventilated ridge tiles. The loft hatch is directly above the stairs which come straight into our living area. have put up with it all this time but now want to insulate this area. Can we cover or block this vents with the insulation. All this talk these days of keeping heat in, it doesnt make sense to let the cold air in.

The ventilation is there to create air flow and stop your roof timbers being affected by moisture and rotting. My advice is to insulate your loft hatch with 300mm minimum of insulation and leave the vents alone.
