I would like to have an open fire but know that the chimney will need work. Lining and external work maybe.

Hi Claire Impossible to answer without knowing if there was a chimney there originally, how old the house is, before the 60ies houses were built with real chimneys. When Central heating became more popular, houses weren't in general built with chimneys. It would be best to post it on Rated People as a job, and get some expert advise Hope this helps JC
