Area surface

Posted by Helen Bailey, on
I need a front garden to be cleared, saving a few plants, and converted to a car parking area which can also be traversed by a wheelchair. What would be the best surface to lay? I've looked around at other people's areas and wonder whether it's best, and more trouble free, to lay tarmac or paving. I'm worried about asking contractors who come as they might just go for a more expensive option. Any advice would be welcomed

Hi H Firstly , make sure you ask a surface contractor to quote the job and not a builder. Get three quotes from three reputable local companies. The best surface would be either concrete ( cheapest but could look a little plain ) Tarmac ( middle of the road can look nice if laid properly ) Or block paving ( most expensive but there is a wide range of colours and styles to suit ) Having not seen the job it's hard to give an exact figure but as a rough guide. Concrete £ 40- £ 50 psm Tarmac £ 55 - £ 65 psm Block paving £ 65 - £ 75 psm
