Load bearing wall

Posted by S Dee, on
We want to knock down a load bearing wall. There is a floor above it and a loft extension above that. Can a builder help in this specialised job with advice and estimates, or do we need a structural engineer first?

Hi, You will need a structural engineer first to give you the calculations for the steels required you should also get building control to check work once done. Best Wishes, Adrian Freeman & Green

there are builders and there are builders. a professional will advise you to get a qualified engineer around to advise you. because you need to be certain that the change will cope with the stress's that are going to be effected by removing the wall (S). an engineer will do the necessary calculations for you. that way you wont have sleepless nights. worth the money. my advice don't just take the word of builders i know seen enough in 32 years. good luck.
