External painting

Posted by Stella Spaulding, on
I am looking to have the rear of my two storey back addition Victorian terraced house in West London painted but there would be a fair amount of making good and a small amount of repointing to be done. I also want the render on the 2 metre high brick wall around the small patio to be made good (some of it is falling off) and repainted. Do I need a builder or painter and decorator

hi Stella, you will need a painter and decorator. don't just hire any one with a paint brush and a van. do your homework for the right tradesman, because you need to know that when its done it's done correctly if not it will only come off again in a few years when done by some one who is not qualified. read up on its prep work by talking to help lines offered by the major paint manufacturers. the more prepared and informed you are the less likely things will go wrong. look for decorators with qualifications. by seeking out qualification you will be able to comb out the good from the not so good of this trade as there are too many of them out there. watch the work being done and if you have done your home work they cant pull the wool over your eyes.
