Old House Walls

Posted by Sharon Woodhead, on
I live in a house built approx 1890 with a nonbearing-I think-lath and plaster inner wall.I had this re-plastered using board in 2010 ;when I took the coving down I noticed the wall/ceiling intersection was uneven.I think this is due to age but the plasterer suggested something had not been done right originally.Should I get it looked at?

HI Sharon' I work on period properties and often find this to be the case. It's generally the movement of the property as it's settled. You will often find a gap at the top of the wall. This is the very reason they invented plaster cove, to hide it. If it get's worse then I would recommend a builder to have a quick look at it. Hope this helps, Joseph.
