Builder's insurance

Posted by Peter Lu, on
I am going to do a loft conversion but my builder does not have any insurance at all. How important is this in regards to accidental damage, injury, e.t.c? Please advise what type of insurance do I need from him and what else I need to know?

Your builder needs public liability insurance for your and his own peace of mind! Even the slightest accident could lead to financial repercussions for both of you. I would be asking myself what sort of builder has no insurance! Ed

my first question would be why would you employ anyone without insurance, loft conversions are tricky and require a broad knowledge of construction especially with regard to fire regs.find a builder with insurance or ask him to get liability cover he should have employers liability at least if he employs anyone.Ask to see the certificate. hope this helps regards dave

Agree with Edward, a builder doing loft conversions with out any insurance is very risky, anything could happen and you could be left with thousands of pounds of damage. I'd look for a builder with public and employees liability
