Removing a non load bearing brick wall

Posted by Molly Summers, on
We have been told that the wall we want to remove is non load bearing so we have been trying to find out how to do this. All the instructions we have found talk about plaster and lathes. If the wall is constructed with bricks, is it as simple at knocking the brick wall down ? Also as the wall is non load bearing, do we need to place any form of beam or RSJ across ?

Are you sure it's non load bearing ? Is it carrying the upper floor beams ? Even if there is not a wall above it it may still carry the upper floor joists. To make sure check which way they are running. Go upstairs and see which way the floorboards go. The joists will run at right angles to the boards If the joists run the same way as the joists and are not supporting them then it is just a matter of knocking out the brick wall. Best of luck. JC
