Always contact an architect if your budget will allow. It's not a builders job to speculate and suggest things. The architect will then produce a drawing, which you will need to get planning permission and building regs. You would then approach a builder with a plan which he can price the job off. Hi Peter contact Building Control at your local council they will be able to give you a good idea what you can do and whether you will need planning permission.
