Hi Brian it's difficult to say without seeing the job but it isn't unknown for floorboards to be lifted for plumbing/electrical work and get refixed without being properly supported by the joist. If possible lift the floorcovering to get a better look at the problem, it may also be necessary to lift some floorboards. Ed
